The map below shows CAVAN’s cycle network under different scenarios of cycling uptake.

By default, the map shows the Baseline scenario, which approximates existing cycling levels. Click on the layers button in the top left of the map to see scenarios of higher cycling uptake: the Near Market, Climate Action Plan, Go Dutch, and Ebike scenarios. The Schools layer, also hidden by default, shows the location and size (number of students) of all schools in the county. The scenarios shown in this map include cycle trips undertaken to travel to work, to school, and for other purposes such as shopping, leisure and personal business.

Under the Baseline scenario, 65% of the distance cycled is on segments scored as non-hostile segments (i.e. away from the busiest roads) and 10% on segments scored as cycle-friendly segments (i.e. quiet lanes and off-road cycleways).

The graph below shows the proportion of trips in CAVAN made by cycling as a function of route distance, for each cycle uptake scenario. It shows how the percentage of trips made by cycling decreases as route distances increase, highlighting that more than 30% of trips of 5km or less are made by cycling under the Go Dutch scenario and that this percentage decreases for longer trips.
